SUNNYSIDE instore PERFORMANCE
To celebrate the release of the wild new album MOMENTUM by Melbourne jazzy disco clubbed out funk party band we call Sunnyside. Momentum will be their second album after coming off a hot year on Melbourne dancefloors and overseas as well. Slaying their FujiRock show in Japan they also had wild shows at the Night Cat and The Curtin. Very dance focused, the music guides you to the floor. This sort of fun record falls perfectly the day before summer starts down under. Its gonna be a fun summer.
Join us at 7pm to get down and get loose for this party band born in Fitzroy and now about to shake on my desk. There will be prizes for the best dancer and of course this gig is FREE and ALL AGES. Bring your friends and make some new ones.

INSTORE ANNOUNCEMENT
Posted by Chris in Gigs, Live music on September 28th, 2017
SATURDAY 7 TH OCTOBER
Northside will welcome
SAATSUMA
To celebrate the release of Overflow on vinyl, SAATSUMA have just announced a live in-store full-band performance at local wax institution Northside Records in Fitzroy on October 7th at 3pm. For this performance SAATSUMA will bring together the five-piece live band for the special performance.
Captivating Melbourne two-piece SAATSUMA share debut album, Overflow, which sees the duo emerge with a cultivated sound well beyond their years. Written and produced by Memphis LK and Cesar Rodrigues, Overflow is a continuity of a motif that runs throughout their body of work. Memphis LK says the album “continues the recurring theme of water, following on from our debut singles Storm and Floating. Water has always been present… it’s an element I am constantly drawn back to… Our connection to and interaction with the natural environment. The fragility and fluctuation of relationships.” It’s a nine track float on an imaginary SAATSUMA stream; from the comedown of ‘Feel It All’; drifting to a rejection of ignorance, ‘Isolate’; floating towards a notion of wanting what you can’t have, ‘Stay’ and the pull of the moon, ‘Crescent’.
Overflow 12” Vinyl LP is available for purchase at Northside Records, as well as available to stream/buy at saatsuma.com.
BRIGGS and TRIALS INSTORE this FRIDAY
That’s right! Get on the good foot!
BRIGGS & TRIALS
Friday 9th October 5pm
FRIDAY we have the honour to host BRIGGS and TRIALS
Having just won Album of the Year at the National Indigenous Music Awards for his 2014 LP Sheplife and best video for Bad Apples, Victorian rapper Briggs is one of Australia’s finest and fiercest MCs. This became clear as early as 2009, when he self-released his debut EP, Homemade Bombs. Since then Briggs has released two albums on Golden Era – Sheplife and 2010’s The Blacklist – toured with the likes of Hilltop Hoods, Ice Cube, Yelawolf and Ghostface Killah, received several Deadly nominations and become a voice for indigenous rights
At The Workers Club he’ll be headlining with a typically incendiary solo set, as well as teaming up with Funkoars’ MC Trials for their A.B. Original project. (Trials will also be performing a DJ set). Support on the night will be up-and-coming rappers Philly, Birdz and Nooky who will be releasing music on Briggs’s new imprint Bad Apples Music.
Starting at 5PM come down to meet BRIGGS and TRIALS and dig on Trials DJ’ing then too.

Northside Records – 100th post!!!
That’s right! Our 100th post on this website and quite possibly the greatest post ever!
Last Friday a beautiful moment was had in Fitzroy. One of the greatest bands to come out of Jamaica paid their respects to Northside. I’m Talking of the Congos, and backed by Australia’s finest – MISTA SAVONA BAND. Thanks to all who played (out of the goodness of their funky heart) and thanks to all who turned up. Everyone was smiling. Thanks to ROB STEER for the Photos.

LORD FINESSE INSTORE: Friday 23rd Sept.
LORD FINESSE…..hip hop royalty…..head of the DITC crew… will be at Northside Records Friday 23rd, 5.30pm for a instore signing. Sure he’ll have a dig as well, as you know he is one of the heaviest diggers around. His production always pays homage to super fine funk and soul riffs so he’ll be right at home at Northside!
Lord Finesse should need no introduction to any hip hop head — his crew D.I.T.C — that’s Diggin’ In The Crates, is made up of the creme of New York’s finest: Big L, Diamond D, Showbiz & AG, OC, Fat Joe & Buckwild, and the extended fam includes cats like Dj Premier, Big Pun, Freddie Foxxx aka Bumpy Knuckles, Cuban Link, Party Arty and Bless of Wild Life crew just to name drop a few.
Known for his laid back rhyming style and smooth flows, Finesse has recorded three albums with D.I.T.C: D.I.T.C, All Love and a live album recorded in memory of Big L, as well as several solo albums: The Funky Technician, Return Of The Funky Man, The Awakening plus 2 ‘rare and unreleased’ compilation albums. Fin has also produced beats for some real hip hop heavyweights, including Notorious B.I.G and Dr. Dre amongst others, and is well known for holding it down as a DJ too. There are not many cats in the game who can MC, produce and DJ and even less who would come close to touching Lord Finesse in any of these skills let alone all three. Respect!
Party starts at 5.30pm on Friday. Bring your Finesse Productions, LPs and girlfriends down and have them autographed by The Funky Technician, say hi and get the lowdown from the man himself. Better get in early – diggers in the house…
Word up: After the signing shit gets crazy at the Laundry. Get Up presents: Lord Finesse, Sheep, Manchild, Mu-Gen, Arks, Class A & Lotus. Don’t sleep.
WORLD RECORD STORE DAY FIREMEN instore VIDEO
Here is a little video MR LOB took on the day – Saturday APRIL 16th 2011. It was the first song performed by the boys. Basically members of Melbourne’s funk engine, THE BAMBOOS, this new formation sees them do covers of funky jazz classics.
They have a new album due to drop on freestyle records (uk) later in 2011, called BLACK FEELING 2 – lookout for it!
Here is THE FIREMEN performing the FREDDIE HUBBARD classic “Straight life”
