Scatter Scatter Tropical Disco is here to stay

Scatter_Feb2014-A3-proof

Scatter Scatter is back this Saturday night, Feb. 1 – and will become a monthly fixture at Boney on the second Saturday of every month, starting March 8. If you have a taste for the tropics and a passion for the sounds of afro, cumbia, latin, soca and island disco, Scatter Scatter is the only place to be… Non-stop tropical disco from dusk ’til dawn.

This Saturday features live band Jaspora playing their soca-reggae-island sounds, along with Jumps (Cat Empire), DJ Manchild,  Julien MF Love, Medhi (fresh from the steamy tropics of Adelaide), some guy called Jimmy Caution and The Public Opinion Sound System.

The Public Opinion Sound System features DJ Manchild, MC 1/6, N’fa Jones & Future Roots. Turntables, live percussion, chants and rapping will take you on a trip though the tropical and tribal rhythms of Africa and South America, weaving through the hip-hop and beat driven sounds from the blocks of Melbourne.

Doors open around 9pm – band on stage around midnight. Arrive early if you please – or come late and dance until 7am!

Scatter Scatter + Gentlemen of Leisure

comingup-scatterscatter

There’s no rest for the wicked! Coming up this weekend is the highly anticipated Scatter Scatter Party at the Prince of Wales / POW Bandroom (St. Kilda), featuring Live performances by The Shaolin Afronauts and Papa Chango, with support for Public Opinion Sound System, plus DJs Manchild and Jumps. This will be the official album launch party for Shaolin Afronauts new album – don’t miss it.

Following up Friday night’s SOUTHSIDE afro-experience, the funk will return to it’s natural habitat on the Northside on Saturday, with DJ Manchild and his Gentlemen of Leisure collective pumpin’ the funk in the Grace Darling Basement. With t-t-t-turntable assistance and the tightest and most righteous selections from DJ Jumps and super-digger DJ Arks, it promises to be a butt-shakin’ night of the deepest, hardest, rawest dancefloor funk and soul this city has to offer. Expect a healthy dose of Afrofunk and Ghetto Boogie in the mix – along with a few of those secret ‘rare as rocking-horse shit’ records the Gentlement of Leisure have been saving up for this auspicious occasion. And heads-up – it’s lights on at 1am – so get in early to get your groove on.

Want more? Scatter Scatter is back at the Prince of Wales again at the end of the month (Aug. 31), featuring the one and only Public Opinion Afro Orchestra, who are rumoured to have a big-arse bag of new material. Joining POAO on the night are 8-bit champions, Cumbia Cosmonauts, along with Manchild and Jumps. Sensible shoes is a must!

The Bizness this weekend

The weekend is loaded with goodness! Friday night is BROWN SUGAR at the Lounge and Saturday night is another SCATTER SCATTER in the Grace Darling Basement. It’s great to see the funk back at the Lounge after such a long hiatus, and it’s coming back full force with the likes of Ennio Styles (RRR), Manchild (PBS, POAO + Northside) , Zack Rampage (PBS) and DJ Geezey (Wax Museum + The Dojo) – it’s gonna be an all-city party!

Saturday night is looking large as well… Beat Suite is on at the Melbourne Recital Centre (featuring Aloe Blacc,  Lance Ferguson and many more), and when you’re done with sitting down there’s relief – non-stop dancing with afro, cumbia and tropical disco action at the Grace Darling. Scatter Scatter #5 features the mysterious ‘Scatter Scatter House Band’, with DJs Future Roots and Manchild. This Scatter Scatter is highly anticipated after the disappointment of the last event being cancelled, so get in early. And a heads up to all the Afro-beat lovers – Scatter Scatter #6  coming up on June 1 will feature NYC’s Ray Lugo (Koloko). Watch this space… or check the Scatter Scatter facebook thing.
