Northside Records is proud and excited to announce we will be hosting Remi (Remi & Sensible J) for the Official worldwide release party of their new album “Divas & Demons“. Officially out on September 16 – and officially live at Northside from 7pm on Friday September 16. We’ll have ample stocks of the new LP and CD instore for your acquisition – and Remi and J will be signing copies after their performance. Get in early – as it will be a full house, again!
Gonna be massive! We have an all-star line-up playing live in the store from 2pm, along with DJs playing their favourite records from start to finish. We also managed to ‘expand’ Northside for one day only; we’ll be taking over the old Birdman Eating premises for the day – creating a super funky pop-up garage sale/jazz dance room/Northside funkmosphere Experience/chillout room/hectic dancefloor… We’ll have crate upon crate of vinyl goodness in the pop-up store – giving the dedicated diggers the chance to keep diggin’ while the bands blow up in the Northside Store. The pop-up store will also play host to a range of DJs throughout the day. Special guests appearing on the day include Remi, GL, Sex on Toast, Deep Street Soul and Man Made Mountain.
Check the poster for all the details, set times and info. You know we’ll have all the Record Day exclusives and Northside’s incredible $20 reissue crates! Amongst the special Record Store Day releases are a new 7″ from REMI (For Good feat. Sampa), New GL 7″, Sex on Toast reissue 7″, new Man Made Mountain 12″ and the brand new 7″ from Deeps Street Soul…. We’ve also teamed up with Roundtable Records for a special reissue of the 1975 Aussie jazz-funk-fusion classic, ARENA. Everyday is Record Store Day at Northside.

After a weekend of instore madness we’re back with news of more Northside shows! But firstly, a massive thanks to The Seven Ups and The Meltdown, and everyone who came along to support Melbourne soul.
Coming up on Sunday 8th March, Northside and PBS106.7FM presents ‘Soulclash’ – The Underground Showcase. This is something we’ve talked about for a long time, and we’re very excited to see this become a reality. The first Soulclash has been curated by Northside’s and PSB’s own DJ Manchild (The Breakdown) and will take place at Howler in Brunswick. Heading the line up is Melbourne’s underground microphone fiend Remi, supported as always by Sensible J. This will be the final local show before Remi and J set off on their 2015 European Tour.
The Seven Ups will also take the stage for a super-set of funky afro soul fire. The Seven Ups have been playing shows all over and promise to deliver some of that heavy heavy syncopation that only comes with relentless shows, touring and late nights. Look out.
Taking you further underground, deep below mainstream and into the caverns of outernational soul, hip hop, afro, dancehall, tropical and funk are the Northside DJs. Big Bossman Chris Gill brings the ‘Burn City Soul’ and deep funk flavours, Lewis Cancut and Ms. Butt (Congo Tardis #1) serve up the bass-heavy booty-shaking sounds of the club/favela and beyond, and DJ Manchild and Mr. Rex will mash you up with anything + everything soul, and the shit you never heard before. No chin-scratchers – It’s a party from the get go!
Sunday March 8 is Labour Day weekend, and that means no work for some on Monday. Get down. Tickets are $18+bf (see below). We will have tickets available at Northside soon.
