In conjunction with Leaps & Bounds Festival 2015, the Shadow Electric Bandroom is currently hosting their latest instalment of ‘Label of Love’ – a celebration of local independent Record labels. Running from July 3 – August 1, each show will highlight a different label and the artists signed to it, with live music, pop up merchandise stores, art exhibitions, food trucks, magicians and more. A Label of Love was born out of an idea to pay homage to the people who tirelessly work behind the scenes to support local music and promote Australian independent artists to the rest of the world.
Northside is excited to see HopeStreet flying the soul flag at Label of Love, and to make it even better – the lineup features The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra, The Meltdown and The Cactus Channel, who will be launching a new single and debuting a new film clip on the night. The Shadow Electric show also marks the start of The Cactus Channel’s Cobaw Tour. The debut of the Cobaw single and filmclip is not exclusive to the event… you can check it out right here!
We should also mention all the other dope nights still happening at Shadow Electric for the Label of Love series, which include:
POISON CITY RECORDS: THURSDAY 16TH JULY
BUTTER SESSIONS: SUNDAY 19TH JULY
LOST AND LONESOME: SATURDAY 25TH JULY
BEDROOM SUCK RECORDS: SATURDAY 1ST AUGUST

Saturday the 2nd of November sees a super-charged night of music at The Shadow Electric with freakadelic Bollywood goodness from The Bombay Royale, hot salsa and Latin funk from San Lazaro and a selection of rarities, versions and remixes from the funk and soul closet with Karate Boogaloo – the Cactus Channel rhythm section and their guests. It’s all in aid of launching HopeStreet’s Tropical Brunswick Mixtape, mixed by DJ Jumps.
What does Tropical Brunswick sound like? Don’t wait for global warming to find out. Unreleased gold from HopeStreet Recordings’ 2014 release schedule and hits and obscurities from the back catalog rub shoulders in the mix under the deft hands of DJ Jumps. Latin and afro bump up against funk, soul and spaghetti cinematica. It’s that hot analog sound you love, but you can get it on the interweb! The first 50 through the door receive a Hopestreet showbag containing the mixtape by DJ Jumps and a free 7″ vinyl from the catalog. TIX SELLING FAST!

THEY ARE CALLING THIS A NEW AUSSIE BREAKERS ANTHEM!
Local soul kids The Cactus Channel have dropped the video for the first single off the highly anticipated debut album “HAPTICS”. This track is a glimpse at just how hot this LP is going to be. We are talking some super dope instrumental funk. Take a look at the video to see how tight these guys are. Its not just because they have played together for years and years but they only rehearse in a tiny shed. 9 piece funky squeeze – a lesson to be learned for us all.
