REMi ‘Unofficial’ Album Launch at Northside

That’s right, another LIVE INSTORE at Northside! In fact, we have several planned for upcoming months so stay tuned. This time Northside Records is proud to host the magic that is REMi. A young Northsider who is making big waves. REMi is about to drop his new album “Raw X Infinity” and will be showcasing the new tunes right here! This will be one of those times as you will be able to say you saw him back when..….

The instore kicks off around 2pm and will also feature a YOUNG EZY, a prize winner from AFRICA’S GOT TALENT. Young Ezy will be performing the song ‘Aspire’ that made heads turn at AGT. Northside DJs and friends will be keeping it HIP HOP all day long. Word.

The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra

With the federal budget about to drop like smallpox, make sure you set at least $18 aside until Saturday May 31st so you can dance away the pain with The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra at Howler in Brunswick. The POAO will be joined by Melbourne’s heaviest funk combo Deep Street Soul, plus The Vibraphonic Orkestra who bring a unique blend of afro, electronica & dub. DJ Manchild will be serving up the edutainment between the bands. The POAO are firing on all cylinders and promise a night of fire.

There is currently no tax on having a good time – so get in early. Pre-sale tickets are available.

Scatter Scatter Tropical Disco is here to stay

Scatter Scatter is back this Saturday night, Feb. 1 – and will become a monthly fixture at Boney on the second Saturday of every month, starting March 8. If you have a taste for the tropics and a passion for the sounds of afro, cumbia, latin, soca and island disco, Scatter Scatter is the only place to be… Non-stop tropical disco from dusk ’til dawn.

This Saturday features live band Jaspora playing their soca-reggae-island sounds, along with Jumps (Cat Empire), DJ Manchild,  Julien MF Love, Medhi (fresh from the steamy tropics of Adelaide), some guy called Jimmy Caution and The Public Opinion Sound System.

The Public Opinion Sound System features DJ Manchild, MC 1/6, N’fa Jones & Future Roots. Turntables, live percussion, chants and rapping will take you on a trip though the tropical and tribal rhythms of Africa and South America, weaving through the hip-hop and beat driven sounds from the blocks of Melbourne.

Doors open around 9pm – band on stage around midnight. Arrive early if you please – or come late and dance until 7am!

Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble at MIJF

Straightup and Melbourne International Jazz Festival are proud to present for the first time in Australia, quite possibly one of the most important and influential musicians in the United States today, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson.

Brought to the attention of the international music world in 2009 by his incredible, critically acclaimed, tribute orchestral album for the transcendent modern hip hop producer, J DILLA, “Suite For Ma Dukes” recorded live for album and DVD by Mochilla.

Atwood-Ferguson will be performing works from this album as well as many others in a very special ONE OFF PERFORMANCE. Guest vocalists are Sophia Brous and Ni Palm, with support from Myele Manzanza Trio (NZ), Silentjay (The Operatives), Amin Payne (The Operatives) & Edd Fisher (PBS), not to mention an allstar band (ensemble) featuring Australia’s finest. June 1 at The Hi-Fi . Record Store Day at Northside – Saturday April 20

INSTORE PERFORMANCE
From 11am when the doors open Northside will host DJ’s all day, when the doors open, the needle drops. DJ’s Manchild, Mista Rex, Chris Gill, Laim McGory, Lance Ferguson, Ms Butt, will all be playing records. THings you can buy or joints to make you shake.
Then at 2pm we have the privilege of hosting AGAIN a favourite soul band of Northside, THE PUTBACKS. One of the first bands on the Hope Street Record label, these cats have a great groove that WILL make you move. On bass, Mick Meagher is actually one of the inspirations behind this years RSD T-SHIRT, ask him why. Also the keyboard player, Simon Mavin is also in the next band that is playing.

Fresh from performing at SxSW in America, HIATUS KAIYOTE, took their sweet soul sound up to NYC and around that area. They had some incredible shows there and we have to make sure that their home town provides them with the MOST FUN show yet! This could be the last time you see these guys doing a free show. Also they are going back overseas soon, so get in while you can. They will be playing a special show at 3PM on Saturday 20th.

THE PUTBACKS will be playing a little set from 1pm. I plan to record the set and then release a 45 for next years RSD.  These guys got the fonk. Also we have the PSYDE PROJECTS rocking out a set in the arfternoon. Funky hip hop for Fitzroy!  Other Mad shit too! Stay tuned.
Northside is doing a collaboration with Blisterfinger & BURN T-shirts to offer  a one-off RSD edition T-shirt. Only 50 will be made. Those of you who saw the JB poster will know whats coming!
It will be $45 and will come with a mystery 45 as well!!! These will only be on sale on the day. Interstaters might be able to put  their hand up, but locals gotta come in! Uh, good god!
